Paris Jackson spoke out about family drama Monday after skipping the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.
The 20-year-old actress and model voiced "love and respect" for her family in a series of posts on Instagram Stories after fans criticized her for missing aunt Janet Jackson's performance at the awards show Sunday.
"Please do not tell me/demand/try to control how I handle my relationship with the people in my life, specifically my family," Paris Jackson, the daughter of late singer Michael Jackson, wrote.
"I understand that some you feel some sort of connection or need to be a part of our lives considering you watched us grow up," she acknowledged. "However, I am handling my situation exactly how my father did. And I am keeping it that way."
"I will always have love and respect for my family. ALWAYS," the star said. "There is nothing more or less than that, that you need to know."
Janet Jackson performed and received the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards. The 52-year-old singer is the younger sister of Michael Jackson, who died at age 50 in June 2009. In addition to Paris, Michael was dad to sons Prince and Blanket.
