Ron Howard celebrated his past and future with wife Cheryl Howard on their 48th anniversary.
The 64-year-old director recalled his first date with Cheryl in an Instagram post Thursday on their anniversary as a couple.
Howard shared a photo of himself and Cheryl standing in front of their 1970 Volkwagen Beetle. The couple drove the car during their night out on the town.
"Cheryl and I went on our 1st date in this very 1970 #VWBug. Many kids and grandkids later, we're still going out!" Howard captioned the post.
Howard and Cheryl married in July 1975 and are parents to four children: actor Reed Howard and actresses Bryce Dallas Howard, Paige Howard and Jocelyn Howard. Howard gave insight into his lasting relationship in a previous interview with HuffPost Live.
"It does take a little luck to grow together and that's what's required. Compatibility and her good patience," the star said. "It's been a real blessing."
"I felt really lucky when we met," he added. "It's crazy -- we were teenagers, it shouldn't have worked. We got married young, that shouldn't have worked either, and yet it really and truly has."
Howard is known for such films as Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, The DaVinci Code and Solo: A Star Wars Story. He will direct adaptations of the JP Delany novel The Girl Before and the Neal Stephenson book Seveneaves.
